Eric Angermeier, MD Hand And Wrist Surgeon

Biography

I have called the Lowcountry home for over 20 years, but I was raised in Fort Mill, SC. Working in my father's tool and die shop, I developed a passion for the precision skills and attention to detail required to build and repair complex machinery. This skill set has served me well in my career of reconstructing and repairing the incredibly complex anatomy of the hand and wrist.

My studies brought me to College of Charleston where I absolutely fell in love with the Charleston community. I had the good fortune to attend both medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. I then had the tremendous privilege to train with world-class hand surgeons at the prestigious Duke University Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship.

After training, I was recruited back to Charleston and served five years on the hand surgery faculty at MUSC. There I achieved the most advanced level of Board Certification for Hand Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, built a comprehensive hand and wrist surgery practice, developed innovative techniques through research, and helped to educate future hand surgeons.

I then went on to co-found Hand Institute of Charleston with the philosophy that the highest possible quality of care could be achieved by assembling a dedicated team of health professionals that focus exclusively on disorders of the hand and wrist. I am thrilled to be able to offer such world-class care to the Lowcountry and beyond, now with office locations in both Mt. Pleasant and Summerville.

I offer highly specialized and customized operative and nonoperative treatment options for chronic hand and wrist problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, and also for injuries of the hand and wrist. I have a particular interest in minimally-invasive and opiod-sparing surgical techniques, as well as professional consulting services for medico-legal, work comp, and the medical device industry.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, surfing, fishing, and taking advantage of all the wonderful natural and cultural amenities the Lowcountry has to offer.
